Sredna gora hotel is located in the center of Pirdop.
The town of Pirdop (8548
inhabitants) is located in the Zlatitsa-Pirdop Valley, between The Old
mountain (to the north) and Sredna Gora Mountain (to the south) at 680 m above
sea level. Pirdop is situated in about 80 km east from Sofia.
The territory of the today’s town of Pirdop was inhabited 6000 years ago. The
ancient Roman road connecting Ulpia Trayana with Ulpia Serdika passed from here.
The name of Pirdop is among those unknown names whose origin history keeps in
secret. Many are the legends, trying to suggest an explanation, but not a single
one, so far, has become completely convincing. T
Northeast from the town are the
monumental relics of the Elenskata Bazilika. Not far from there one can find
remains of an ancient village, obviously existed later. There is a hypothesis,
it is the disappeared old Thracian town of Burdapa, mentioned from the Byzantine
chronologist Prokopij. Might be, the Proto-Pirdop settlements, united in the old
town of Burdapa, could be found in the relics of the Elenskata Bazilika, in the
outskirts of The Balkans.
